What Would Jesus Sing?

As you probably know, a few years back, there was a question that became very popular among Christians. Christians that were not sure how to handle certain situations that would arise in their lives. And that question was “What would Jesus do?” Many times this question would bring to light the answer to whatever dilemma the person was facing.

Truth be known, this question has helped me personally quite a few times, even if I wasn’t the one facing the dilemma. It provided clarity on issues I hadn’t thought about. Perhaps you too have applied this question to issues in your life. If so, I’m sure you’re glad to have such a question to use. I know I am.

Over the years I have been so amazed by song writers that have been able to create simple lyrics with music. And in a matter of minutes (sometimes even less) move me emotionally. In under 5 minutes (in most cases), they can tell a story with words that rhyme, that pull directly at my heartstrings. Does this ever happen to you?

I’ve often thought that perhaps it is because of my musical background. I use to be a drummer in a Top 40 band back in the ’70s, but I don’t think it is. In any case, I want to tell you about how this video came to be.

How This Video Came to Be

One day I was sitting in my club basement, which is where I spend most of my time (my man cave). And I was just kind of talking to the Lord and thinking about the things going on in my own life (like we all do). And this idea popped in my mind. The idea consisted of 4 words. The same 4 words that are the title of this page (What Would Jesus Sing?).

That was it. There were no details… just those words. I didn’t know anything about any video that the Lord was coaxing me to make. In fact, at first, I thought I would write a song with that title and sing the song myself while playing my guitar. Oops! I forgot to tell ya. I also play guitar just a bit. But I would not call myself a guitarist by any means, which is probably why the video idea (when it did come along) seemed like the thing to do.  I’m sure the song, had I decided to go that route, would have been very similar, because my intention was to somehow connect the same songs that ended up in the video.

It did take me over 2 months to put all the pieces together, while picking and choosing the song clips that would make my points. I don’t know if anyone else has ever noticed this before, but for as long as I can remember, there have been song lyrics that seem to be applicable to God or Jesus communicating love to us. After eliminating many other songs, the video below is what I’ve come up with. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Jim Rohn Tells the Story of Job

I have been fan of Jim Rohn for a very long time. Near the end of 2009 Jim went to be with the Lord and I thank God that he has had such a major influence on me and my life.

bible_carl & tracy gossettI have a rather large collection of personal development audio cassette programs from the 80’s, 90’s and even some into the 21st century. Self development has always been a passion of mine and Jim Rohn has been one of the most motivational teachers and speakers that spoke to me during that time.

I have always loved the way he tells this bible story, though Jim would be the first to tell you that he is no expert when it comes to the bible. I have frequently asked others if they are familiar with the story of Job and often find that the answer has been no.

I have searched the internet to see if perhaps someone had already published this wonderful story on YouTube or Vimeo, but there was nothing. So the thought crossed my mind that if I could create one myself, it would be something of value that others would enjoy and be inspired by.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

Love Them Like Jesus

A few days ago I opened an email that was sent to me from my autoresponder company (the company I use to send out automated emails to people who sign up for my e-course). It’s just a simple notice to let me know that someone signed up to receive the course. I sometimes like to glance at their names and email addresses for various reasons that I won’t go into here, but… this particular one immediately caught my attention because the @ symbol was followed by “lovethemlikejesus101.com”.

I thought to myself, wow that’s cool? I wondered if there was a website with that domain name, so I opened a new tab and typed it in the browser window, but no… I got one of those 404 error messages we all get when something doesn’t exist. So then I went to Google and typed in “Love them like Jesus” (without the quotes) and lo and behold, a few youtube videos came up. And since I am a video fanatic, I couldn’t resist. I clicked on the link and OMG! This song started playing that I had never heard before and it is beautiful!

Usually songs kinda grow on me after hearing them a few times, but every once in a while, I’ll like a song right off the bat and this is one of those. So now that I’m on youtube, I use the youtube search box to type in the same search query, and I came across another version that was just as wonderful as the first one.

I am placing both versions below. Feel free to leave a comment in the comment section and let me know if you have a preference. I love them both and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. You’ll notice the lyrics show up inside one of them and actually has some additional lyrics that I don’t think are sung in the other, due to the fact that it is a duet version near the end where both singers sing different lyrics.

My first thought was that this song is about a person who must have been very close to someone who lost a baby, perhaps a stillborn, but I believe the song has a universal appeal because we all have challenges and lose loved ones throughout our lives. And we all have times in life when we don’t know what to say to help others. I’m sure this will make more sense after listening (and watching) the videos, so let me stop rambling and let you enjoy them. If an advertisement shows up inside the one beneath this one, you may need to x out of it in order to see the lyrics.

The love of her life is drifting away

They’re losing the fight for another day

The life that she’s known is falling apart

A fatherless home, a child’s broken heart

You’re holding her hand, you’re straining for words

You trying to make – sense of it all

She’s desperate for hope, darkness clouding her view

She’s looking to you

Just love her like Jesus, carry her to Him

His yoke is easy, His burden is light

You don’t need the answers to all of life’s questions

Just know that He loves her and stay by her side

Love her like Jesus

Love her like Jesus

The gifts lie in wait, in a room painted blue

Little blessing from Heaven would be there soon

Hope fades in the night, blue skies turn to gray

As the little one slips away

You’re holding her hand, you’re straining for words

You’re trying to make sense of it all

They’re desperate for hope, darkness clouding their view

They’re looking to you

Just love them like Jesus, carry them to Him

His yoke is easy, His burden is light

You don’t need the answers to all of life’s questions

Just know that He loves them and stay by their side

Love them like Jesus

The Lord of all creation holds our lives in His hands

The God of all the nations holds our lives in His hands

The Rock of our salvation holds our lives in His hands

He cares for them just as He cares for you

So love them like Jesus, love them like Jesus

You don’t need the answers to all of life’s questions

Just know that He loves them and stay by their side

Love them like Jesus

Love them like Jesus

A Father’s Love

This is an incredible story. I use to think I was a pretty good father…

Actually I still do… but if you watch these videos and you’ll see why I titled this post a father’s love.

Allow me to introduce you to Team Hoyt!

If you’ve ever seen or heard other parents speak negatively toward or about their children, it may have made you feel uncomfortable just being nearby.  I know it has had that affect on me. As parents we need to realize that we can either give our kids something to live up to, or something to live down to. Kids are much smarter then we give them credit for and their feelings are very real. They know when you’re treating them with love and respect or disdain and disrespect.

Granted… the Father in these videos has set the bar extremely high. Perhaps higher than any of us could ever even approach. He is a very special man called to do something that most of us are not.

But… I hope that we can all be inspired by him to raise our own bar a little higher. Keep in mind, someday the tables will turn and these little people (our children or grandchildren) that you now have a chance to influence will be larger, smarter and in a position to help you, the way you are in a position to help them now.

What will they remember about you when the tide turns?
