A few days ago I opened an email that was sent to me from my autoresponder company (the company I use to send out automated emails to people who sign up for my e-course). It’s just a simple notice to let me know that someone signed up to receive the course. I sometimes like to glance at their names and email addresses for various reasons that I won’t go into here, but… this particular one immediately caught my attention because the @ symbol was followed by “lovethemlikejesus101.com”.
I thought to myself, wow that’s cool? I wondered if there was a website with that domain name, so I opened a new tab and typed it in the browser window, but no… I got one of those 404 error messages we all get when something doesn’t exist. So then I went to Google and typed in “Love them like Jesus” (without the quotes) and lo and behold, a few youtube videos came up. And since I am a video fanatic, I couldn’t resist. I clicked on the link and OMG! This song started playing that I had never heard before and it is beautiful!
Usually songs kinda grow on me after hearing them a few times, but every once in a while, I’ll like a song right off the bat and this is one of those. So now that I’m on youtube, I use the youtube search box to type in the same search query, and I came across another version that was just as wonderful as the first one.
I am placing both versions below. Feel free to leave a comment in the comment section and let me know if you have a preference. I love them both and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. You’ll notice the lyrics show up inside one of them and actually has some additional lyrics that I don’t think are sung in the other, due to the fact that it is a duet version near the end where both singers sing different lyrics.
My first thought was that this song is about a person who must have been very close to someone who lost a baby, perhaps a stillborn, but I believe the song has a universal appeal because we all have challenges and lose loved ones throughout our lives. And we all have times in life when we don’t know what to say to help others. I’m sure this will make more sense after listening (and watching) the videos, so let me stop rambling and let you enjoy them. If an advertisement shows up inside the one beneath this one, you may need to x out of it in order to see the lyrics.
The love of her life is drifting away
They’re losing the fight for another day
The life that she’s known is falling apart
A fatherless home, a child’s broken heart
You’re holding her hand, you’re straining for words
You trying to make – sense of it all
She’s desperate for hope, darkness clouding her view
She’s looking to you
Just love her like Jesus, carry her to Him
His yoke is easy, His burden is light
You don’t need the answers to all of life’s questions
Just know that He loves her and stay by her side
Love her like Jesus
Love her like Jesus
The gifts lie in wait, in a room painted blue
Little blessing from Heaven would be there soon
Hope fades in the night, blue skies turn to gray
As the little one slips away
You’re holding her hand, you’re straining for words
You’re trying to make sense of it all
They’re desperate for hope, darkness clouding their view
They’re looking to you
Just love them like Jesus, carry them to Him
His yoke is easy, His burden is light
You don’t need the answers to all of life’s questions
Just know that He loves them and stay by their side
Love them like Jesus
The Lord of all creation holds our lives in His hands
The God of all the nations holds our lives in His hands
The Rock of our salvation holds our lives in His hands
He cares for them just as He cares for you
So love them like Jesus, love them like Jesus
You don’t need the answers to all of life’s questions
Just know that He loves them and stay by their side
Love them like Jesus
Love them like Jesus
