Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a Father with his two sons. The younger son was full of restlessness and yearned to explore the world beyond the village that he lived in.
One day, he approached his Father with a bold request, saying, “Father, I would like to have my share of the inheritance that would be mine after you pass away.” This request deeply saddened the Father, but he loved his son and agreed to divide his wealth between the two brothers.
With his newfound fortune, the younger son left his home and embarked on a journey to a distant land. In this new place, he indulged in a lavish lifestyle, squandering his wealth on extravagant parties, fine clothes and a circle of friends who only cared about him because of his riches.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, until the young man found himself penniless.
To make matters worse, a severe famine struck the land and he was left with nothing. No food, no money, and no one to help him.
This younger son began to realize the depth of his mistakes. He began to feel a deep longing for his Father’s house, where even the hired servants had more than enough to eat. It was in this moment of despair that he made a decision to return home and seek forgiveness. DonPasco.

Overwhelmed by his Father’s love, the younger son confessed, “Father, I have sinned against you and heaven. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” However, the Father paid no heed to his son’s self-deprication. Instead, he called for his servants to bring the BEST robe, a sign of honor, and adorned his son with a ring, symbolizing his place in the family. The Father even ordered sandals for his son’s feet, signifying his reinstatement as a son and not a servant.
The news of the son’s return spread quickly throughout the village, and the Father decided to throw a grand feast to celebrate his homecoming. While preparations were underway, the older son, who had been diligently working in the fields, returned home to witness the festivities. Confused and annoyed, he inquired about the cause of the commotion.
A servant explained, ” Your brother has returned, and your Father is overjoyed. He has ordered a celebration to welcome him back into the family.” But instead of sharing in his Father’s joy, the older son grew bitter and refused to join the festivities. He felt betrayed and resented his younger brother’s actions.
Seeing his older son’s resentment, the Father came outside and pleaded with him to participate in the celebration. The Father lovingly explained, “My son, everything I have is yours, but your brother was lost and has been found. It is only fitting that we rejoice and be glad.” However, the older son’s heart was hardened by jealousy and a sense of self-righteousness.
This parable teaches us profound lessons about the nature of God’s love and forgiveness. It reminds us that no matter how far we stray or how grievously we err, God’s love remains constant and unwavering. The story emphasizes that genuine repentance and a humble heart will always find a place in the Father’s arms.
